RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT
Gizmo: Physical Computing: Ode to Plywood
Project Date: October 2021
The Brief: Design, build and demonstrate an electro-mechanical machine that celebrates mechanisms and demonstrate an engaging physical interaction. The objective is to produce a plywood-based machine that effectively integrates machine elements, sensors, actuators, and embedded processors to perform an engaging iterative physical interaction.

This was truly a passion project and one of my favorites so far. I designed and produced an interactive one player game that involves reaction time, risk and a race to the finish line.
I based my gizmo on the thrilling first episode of Netflix's Squid Game. In RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT, the player may only place their hand by the sensor when the LED is green and the gamemaster's head faces away. Fail to remove your hand before the LED lights red and the gamemaster faces you and you lose. Make to the end of the line before time runs out to win. Move at your own risk... eyes on the prize.

I created an A1 poster to detail the design and build process in addition to a video that showcases how my machine works.
